Supporting Special Educational Needs
All Cambridgeshire Local Authority (LA) maintained schools have a similar approach to meeting the needs of pupils with Special Educational Needs and /or disabilities and are supported by the LA to ensure that all pupils, regardless of their specific needs, make the best possible progress in school.
All schools are supported to be as inclusive as possible, with the needs of pupils with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) being met in a mainstream setting wherever possible.
What is the Local Offer?
The LA Local Offer
The Children and Families Bill was enacted in September 2014. From this date, Local Authorities (LA) and schools are required to publish and keep under review information about services they expect to be available for children and young people with special educational needs (SEN) aged 0-25. The LA refers to this as the ‘Local Offer’.
The intention of the Local Offer is to improve choice and transparency for families. It will also be an important resource for parents in understanding the range of services and provision in the local area.

What is the SEN Information Report?
Schools utilise the LA Local Offer to meet the needs of SEND pupils as determined by school policy and the provision that the school is able to provide. Schools refer to this as ‘The Special Education Needs Information Report.
At Spaldwick, we treat ALL children as individuals in all aspects of their learning.
Our Vision
We aim to give all children the capacity, confidence and self-esteem to reach for the school vision which is ‘Where every day is a chance to Learn and Succeed’
Our Aims
to:
- be at the heart of the local community by working in partnership with families
- be an inclusive school that encourages and motivates all children to be happy, confident and independent learners
- nurture and develop ambitious learners that show respect for themselves and others
- provide an engaging curriculum to apply the essential basic skills of reading, writing and maths through exciting and fun learning opportunities
Our Offer
We are committed to meeting the individual needs of all of our children. As an inclusive school, we provide a differentiated and creative curriculum dependent on the child’s needs. It is important to us that all children are able to learn in a positive and stimulating environment.
We aim to ensure the early identification of children requiring SEND provision and that the best provision is in place for individuals. Parents are fully informed and are encouraged to have an active role in enabling support for their children. Parents regularly attend meetings to discuss their child’s progress and attainment.
We regularly liaise with outside agencies to access specialist support and training for our staff, in order to meet the needs of individual children who need extra support.
