Personal Development
At Spaldwick, we believe that a well-rounded education goes beyond just academic achievement. Our vision is "where every day is a chance to learn and succeed," and we strive to nurture ambitious, resilient, and independent learners who show respect for themselves and others.
One of the ways we bring this vision to life is through our focus on personal development. Throughout their time at our school, our children have numerous opportunities to explore their interests, develop essential life skills, and take on leadership roles.
Preparing for the Future
In Year 6, our children participate in an annual job fair where they review a variety of roles available and write letters of application to the Headteacher. This hands-on experience helps them develop essential skills for the world of work, such as communication, problem-solving, and self-advocacy.
Promoting Pupil Voice
Our "Hoots Parliament" provides a platform for our Junior Leadership Team to lead assemblies and discussions about what's going well and what could be improved at our school. This fosters a sense of ownership and empowerment amongst our children, aligning with our value of independence.
Developing Emotional Wellbeing
We have a team of "Happiness Heroes" who are trained to lead our "My Happy Mind" programme across the school. By nurturing emotional intelligence and resilience, we aim to support the overall wellbeing of our children, in line with our value of care.
Encouraging Leadership
Our Playleaders and Playground Buddies receive external training to support their peers during breaks and lunchtimes. This not only develops their own leadership skills but also promotes a positive, inclusive environment for all our children, reflecting our value of pride.
Inspiring Aspirations
Each summer, we host an Aspirations Day, where we invite members of the local community to share information about their careers in a cafe-style event. This exposure to a diverse range of professions helps our children explore their interests and consider their future paths, aligning with our value of enjoyment.
Throughout the year, our children also have opportunities to take on roles such as House Captains, Sports Ambassadors, Reading Leaders, and Administrative Assistants. These experiences allow them to develop essential skills and contribute to the life of our school community.
At Spaldwick, we believe that a focus on personal development is crucial for preparing our children to be successful, well-rounded individuals. By nurturing their interests, building their confidence, and providing leadership opportunities, we are empowering them to be the best versions of themselves and make a positive impact on the world around them.
