Explorers (EYFS)

Welcome to the Explorers' Class Page

This is our Reception Class

Mrs Hannah Holmes is the Explorers' class teacher. She is supported by, Mrs Clare Hindmarsh and Mrs Alice Hinchliffe.

In Reception, we follow a one-year cycle. You can find all our curriculum newsletters at the bottom of the page. Further information about how subjects are taught at Spaldwick can be found under the curriculum tab.

Autumn 1

"Happy to be me" focuses on the skills children need to develop when they first start school. We learn about our families, bodies and belonging.

Autumn 2

"Jurassic Park" is a thematic unit covering all areas of the curriculum. We will learn about the Stone Age and dinosaurs.

"The spirit of Christmas" is a short theme focusing on Christmas traditions around the world.

Spring 1

"Come Fly with Me"is a thematic unit covering all areas of the curriculum. We learn about other parts of the world and their culture.

Spring 2

"No Place Like Home" is a thematic unit covering all areas of the curriculum. We learn about where we live before thinking about different habitats.

Summer 1

"Under the Sea" is a thematic unit covering all areas of the curriculum. We learn about lots of different sea creatures through stories. 

"Help is at Hand" is a thematic unit covering all areas of the curriculum. We learn about people who help us at home and school and people who keep us healthy and safe.

Summer 2

"What on Earth" is a thematic unit covering all areas of the curriculum. We learn about looking after things and showing respect for our world.

PE

Our PE day is Friday. Children can come to school in their PE kits (trainers, house colour t-shirt, black shorts and a black jumper).

Homework

Reading: Please spend 5 minutes a day reading with your child - it makes such a big difference. We will change our library books on a Wednesday.
